Audrey Kawasaki

The themes in Audrey Kawasaki's work are contradictions within themselves. Her work is both innocent and erotic. Each subject is attractive yet disturbing. Audrey's precise technical style is at once influenced by both manga comics and Art Nouveau. Her sharp graphic imagery is combined with the natural grain of the wood panels she paints on, bringing an unexpected warmth to enigmatic subject matter.

The figures she paints are seductive and contain an air of melancholy. They exist in their own sensually esoteric realm, yet at the same time present a sense of accessibility that draws the observer to them. These mysterious young women captivate with the direct stare of their bedroom eyes.

I just discovered her today and I was totally blown away! Grabe ka amazing ang iyang works. And she does 'em on wood pa jud! Thanks to Amuer for sending me the link. Mesmerizing kaau!

Aya Kato

Art nouveau + manga + graphic design + ukiyoe wood block prints + baroque = AYA KATO designs. The 25-year-old artist's designs have been featured in countless glossy magazines around the world, a Windows XP Trekkers commercial, a Toni Amos video, and more. The girl's got skills. In her own words (cute to the point of confusion): "I want to wake up a lot of souls that the person is sleeping in the innermost recesses of the heart as much as possible by using my maximum imagination." *blink* blink* ...let Aya's work speak for itself.

I first heard about Aya Kato after watching Tori's "Sleeps With Butterflies". The very next day I plowed through Google looking for her. (i sort of forgot her last name and all i had was "Aya" something, sleeps with butterflies LOL)

In 1969, a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic named Jerry Levitan, armed with a reel-to-reel tape deck, snuck into John Lennon's hotel room in Toronto and convinced John to do an interview about peace. 38 years later, Jerry has produced a film about it. Using the original interview recording as the soundtrack, director Josh Raskin has woven a visual narrative which tenderly romances Lennon's every word in a cascading flood of multipronged animation. Raskin marries the terrifyingly genius pen work of James Braithwaite with masterful digital illustration by Alex Kurina, resulting in a spell-binding vessel for Lennon's boundless wit, and timeless message.

Poe (Ann Danielewski) Music singer and songwriter

Birth name: Annie Decatur Danielewski.

Born: March 23, 1968 New York, USA.

Poe (Ann Danielewski) biography (bio):

Known as Poe, was one of several female singer-songwriters to first hit the modern rock charts in the mid-1990s. Others include Alanis Morissette, P J Harvey, Tori Amos, and Liz Phair.

She is the daughter of Polish film director Tad Danielewski and his wife, Priscilla Machold, a former American actress. Poe is also the sister of author Mark Z. Danielewski. She received her nickname in childhood after wearing a costume inspired by Edgar Allan Poe to a Halloween party where she dressed as the "Red Death" from Edgar Allan Poe's "The Masque of the Red Death".

She pursued her undergraduate studies at Princeton University where she organized her first band. Her first album, Hello, was released in 1995. Her debut single, "Angry Johnny", got much radio and MTV airplay.

As an artist who tours small clubs continuously, she was unable to produce a second album until 2000's Haunted. She wrote, recorded and mixed the album entirely in her own home on her personal computer; this was noted on a number of technology websites, particularly MSNBC’s The Site.

Haunted was recorded after the death of Poe's father. There's short audio recordings of her late father within the album. I guess it was her way of dealing with the pain. She said "But listening to them the first time proved so difficult that she was hesitant to use them in her music. "I took these tapes home and I couldn't listen to them," Poe explains. "It was too hard, so I kept finding ways to avoid it. They were sitting on my coffee table next to a boombox."

There's an eerie part after the end of the song a couple of minutes later in the album...

Father :
What is it Annie?

Daughter :
You think I'll cry? I won't cry!
My heart will break before I cry!
I will go mad.

About She's Your Cocaine
"There are three characters in "She's Your Cocaine" - a he and a she and the girl singing it. I haven't quite figured out if the girl singing is really pissed off that she isn't special anymore, or if she is just horrified that she put this guy on a pedestal and he's now he's chosen this thing... this girl who wouldn't even be let into a real girl's party. This... black hole of nebulai.

[INT]: That isn't very sisterly of you.

[Tori]: I think your own sex can see your sex for what it is. You know the tricks of your own sex. Sometimes you can put your little play glasses on and not want to see them. But I know when another woman is flirting with one of my crew - it's so obvious and yet they can't see it. They say 'oh she's so pained' or 'she's had all this stuff happen to her'. I know a girl like this - who uses her victimness to make people feel they can't do enough for her, that nothing is ever enough. And you're like an addict. You can't spill enough blood, you can't wrap your dick into seventeen different little shapes, y'know, like those balloons. 'Here... look! Puppy! Ice cream truck!' This song is my revenge.

Hyde (Pronounced in Japanese: Hai-do, or in English as "Hide", b. January 29, 1968, in Wakayama, Japan) is the singer for the Japanese rock band L'Arc~en~Ciel. Since Hyde keeps his personal information secret, much about him is either unknown or unofficial (including his real name, which is rumored to be Hideto Takarai) He confirmed his birthdate in an interview for the 2002 March issue of Rockin On Japan.[1] He joined L'Arc~en~Ciel in 1991 after leaving another band called Jerusalem's Rod where he was the guitarist.

In addition to being the lead singer and main lyricist of L'Arc~en~Ciel, Hyde has solo projects, as well as his own record label under Sony Japan called Haunted Records. >>Wiki

After months of waiting we have the results of the Breakthrough Design Competition! Finally, the wait is over! There have been fighting, bitter rivalries and bitching of all sorts (don’t believe me? Just look at the comments of some people). There was one guy who accused me of copying what turned out to be my own design LOL. And at one point somebody I knew even tried to stop me from getting votes (you’re only allowed one vote per email add). I'm sure he knows exactly what he did. Can you say karma?

Over 1,000 artworks were submitted from all over the Philippines.

15 were selected...

then 5...

then 1.

These precious things
Let them bleed
Let them wash away
These precious things
Let them break their hold over me

I remember
Yes in my peach party dress
No one dared
No one cared
To tell me where the pretty girls are
Those demigods
With their nine-inch nails and little fascist panties tucked inside the heart of every nice girl
